• Clay Pavers

LASER MARKED PAVERS

Laser-marking is produced by melting the clay with the laser beam. It is the iron, red color, in the melted clay that produces the black mark. The mark is part of the paver and will not separate from the surface of the paver. It serves to protect the paver from wear, because it is now much harder and more durable than the original clay.

Clay pavers, without the red color, will not produce a black mark when lasered without additional processing at additional costs. The other option for clay pavers, without the red color, is to sandblast.

SANDBLASTED PAVERS

Sandblasting is processed by applying a "mask" to the surface of the paver, with text removed. Sand is then directed at a high pressure through the holes in the mask, blasting away the clay. The routed out text can then be accented with lithochrome paint or a grout or epoxy fill of a variety of colors.

• Granite Pavers

Granite pavers can be sandblasted in the same fashion as clay pavers. They can be laser-marked, but are not generally considered suitable for projects with pedestrian traffic.

Granite is considered to "weather" better than marble. Granite and marble can be cut and polished to individual specifications.

Granite pavers are available in custom sizes.

• Ceramic Tiles

Ceramic tiles are best suited for wall applications, inside or out. They can withstand rain, ice and sun. The laser produces a black mark within the surface glaze of the tile. The mark is highly resistant to abrasive wear.

• Granite & marble - custom pieces

Granite and marble custom pieces can be lasered, but that is not considered appropriate for most applications. Sandblasting is considered the preferred method to mark granite & marble that is subject to foot traffic.
